Thank you for the Clothe a Teen Contributions

A big thank you to everyone who was able to contribute to Hope Southern Indiana’s Clothe-a-Teen program. Through your generosity, $1,180.00 was contributed to provide teens with new back to school clothing. That amount will give 15 teens new clothes to start the new school year. Thank you!

Donations needed for our Comfort Meals

About four years ago, the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) began a successful Comfort Meal program consisting of two designated teams that would alternate in preparing a meal or other food for the family of a newly deceased church member.  We have been operating this program since then using the generous donations provided to us at that time. We are now in dire need of donations again.  Our cupboard is bare!  You can help us by donating:  Money, Gift cards to GFS or Sam's Club, or purchases of the Large, 6 lbs. size canned corn, green beans, peaches, fruit salad, or baked beans. Your kindness will be greatly appreciated!  All donations can be given to Martha Beckort, Allison Pruitt, or Susan Smith.  There will be a bin in the Gathering area for the canned items.  Please make checks out to the CWF.  THANK YOU ALL for your much needed assistance at this time.

Disciples Women’s 145 Birthday

Disciples Women is celebrating our 145th birthday in 2019. This is a celebration marking October 21, 1874, as the day that Caroline Neville Pearre organized the women to address the mission and ministry that was then lacking in the church.  Since then Disciples Women have been organizing and advocating to serve the needs of God’s people across time, culture and geography. The work of many has been celebrated across the last 145 years and Disciples Women in the United States and Canada continue to find their voices and live out their call today. You can follow the 145 days of prayer for this celebration at:  https://www.discipleshomemissions.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/145th-Birthday-Prayer-Calendar.pdf

Open & Affirming Special Offerings

On Sunday, January 6, Central Christian Church dedicated our Welcoming Statement and celebrated being named an Open and Affirming Congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) by AllianceQ.

AllianceQ provided much help and many resources in our journey to becoming Open and Affirming. Central is now listed on their website as an Open and Affirming Church, and they placed our Welcoming Statement on their site as an example for other churches to use as they go on their own journey to becoming Open and Affirming.

During the month of January, we will be taking a special offering to be given to AllianceQ. If you would like to contribute, please mark your offering envelope or your check with AllianceQ or Open and Affirming.

Community Cupboard Needs Donations!

The Community Cupboard is filling a great need in our neighborhood. However, too often our supplies for the cupboard are very low. You can help restock our inventory with donations of the items listed below.

The container for donated supplies is located in the Gathering Area. Bring your items to Central on Sundays or you may drop by the church office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm. Any items purchased solely for the Community Cupboard can be counted as in-kind contributions to Central Christian Church on your financial giving statement. Just turn in your receipts to Peg Harmeling.

Personal items: tooth brush/tooth paste, bath soap, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, shampoo, diapers, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, cleaning supplies, trash bags, combs, band aids, gloves, hats, scarves, socks

Non-perishable foods: macaroni and cheese, pasta, ramen noodles, canned foods, cereals, individual apple sauces, baby food, bottled water, dog and cat food, peanut butter/jelly, individual meal packages that do not need refrigeration, cheese or peanut butter crackers

Volunteer's Needed for Church Website

The Membership Department is looking for a few volunteers to help update the Central Christian Church website. These updates consist of small text/link changes and a few photos a couple times a month. Holly Knight will train you. Please email Holly at hollyannknight@gmail.com if you are interested.

Prayer Concerns & Joys

If you have a prayer concern or a joy that you would like to share with the congregation during the 11 am Worship, please fill out one of the cards titled “Prayer Concerns & Joys” that are located in the pew boxes. Pass the cards to the center isle and an usher will pick up the cards immediately following the anthem.  Will, our interim minister, will share these with the congregation during Prayers of the People.

Our Welcoming Statement

We proclaim this house of faith to be a place of grace and love for all as we strive to fulfill our mission of Sharing Christ, Caring for Others, Building a Community of Love.

The Upper Room

The Membership Department purchases a yearly subscription to “The Upper Room” daily devotional. You can find copies of the booklet in the back of the Sanctuary in the Gathering Area and on the serving counter in Fellowship Hall.

Direct Deposit Giving

If you wish to begin Direct Deposit for your church offering, you must complete an authorization form and attach it to a voided check. If you already are using Direct Deposit and want to adjust your giving amount, then all you need to complete is the authorization form. If you'd like to include a direct deposit for the Building Fund, just note it on the form, and I will see that it gets to the correct account. Put the forms in the offering plate or hand it directly to me. The authorization forms are located in the back of the Sanctuary. Thanks – Judy Hanen, Treasurer

Prayer Ministry Team

Central’s Prayer Ministry Team meets once a month to pray for the needs made known to them. Team members are in constant contact via email throughout each week. There is a beautiful wood “Prayer Chapel,” handmade by David Adams, that stands in the Gathering Area. Located on the “chapel” are blank cards for writing down prayer requests. The cards are then dropped into the wood Chapel. The Prayer Ministry Team receives these requests and prays for the need written on each card. When an address is included with the request, a card is mailed to the person who is being prayed for (when appropriate). In the same way, some prayer requests are very personal, and you need not sign your name to the card if you so choose. Central’s Prayer Ministry Team is just another way that we are “Sharing Christ. Caring for Others. Building a Community of Love.
